Crucial Applicant-to-Vacancy Ratios
Understanding the numbers:

  • If 20 people apply for 10 spots, the ratio is:
    👉 20 Ă· 10 = 2.0 â†’ That’s 2:1, meaning 2 applicants fighting for each spot.
  • If 15 applicants apply for 20 spots, the ratio is:
    👉 15 Ă· 20 = 0.75 â†’ That’s 0.75:1, meaning less than 1 applicant per spot â€” no balloting needed!

Key Terminology Explained

Priority Groups

MGS categorizes applicants based on:

Citizenship Status:

  • Singapore Citizens (SC)
  • Permanent Residents (PR)

Distance from School:

  • <1km (highest priority)
  • 1-2km
  • 2km (lowest priority)

Note: Gongshang’s 2A(1) phase shows extreme volatility, ranging from 1.97:1 to 3.54:1 in just three years.

*Note: Our analysis begins from 2022 because this year marked a pivotal change in primary school’s admission framework, particularly with the significant expansion of Phase 2C vacancies from 20 to 40 spots – a 100% increase that reshaped admission patterns.*
